    AD421 is a complete loop-powered, digital 4-20 mA converter, designed to meet the needs of smart transmitter manufacturers in the industrial control field. It provides a high-precision, fully integrated, low-cost solution in a compact 16-pin package. AD421 is particularly suitable for extending the resolution of 4-20 mA smart transmitters, and the cost is extremely low.
    AD421 has a built-in optional regulator for powering itself and other devices in the transmitter. This regulator can provide +5 V, +3.3 V or +3 V to regulate the output voltage. The device also has built-in +1.25 V and +2.5 V precision voltage references. Therefore, the AD421 does not require a discrete regulator and reference voltage source. The external components only need a few passive components and a regulator tube to expand the large loop voltage range.
    AD421 can be used in conjunction with standard HART FSK protocol communication circuits, and the rated performance will not be affected. The high-speed serial interface can work at a rate of 10 Mbps and allows simple connection with commonly used microprocessors and microcontrollers through a standard three-wire serial interface.
    This DAC adopts Σ-Δ architecture, which can guarantee 16-bit monotonicity and integral nonlinearity of ±0.01%. The device provides 4 mA zero-scale output current (with an offset error of ±0.1%) and 20 mA full-scale output current (with a gain error of ±0.2%).
    AD421 provides the following two packages: 16-pin, 0.3-inch wide, plastic DIP package and 16-pin, 0.3-inch wide, SOIC package. The rated temperature range is the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
