ere's a fresh 1 pound factory pack of food grade TARTARIC acid blend from LD Carlson as shown above.  Tartaric acid is grape acidity perfect for use in winemaking.  Tartaric Acid is used to raise acid levels in wine, beer, and hydroponics. It is also used extensively in making candy.  Tartaric Acid adds "vinosity", reminding us of other wines we have enjoyed so what we're drinking tastes "correct".
I
notice that some of the more disreputable sellers are getting bulk product from truck wrecks, surplus outlets, and product returns warehouses.  There is no guarantee the product they got has been processed and handled as food grade.  They then package this up themselves out in the garage and offer it here at a discount.
Most likely what you will actually get is the less expensive Citric or Acid Blend.  I know this is happening because I know what Tartaric costs and they are selling it too cheaply.  Tartaric is the most expensive acid and for this reason we sell only the LDC and BSG factory packed product.

artaric acid is typically used in wines that are naturally lacking in acid. Wines that are too low in acid are flat tasting.  Acidity adds a liveliness to the wine and helps to bring out the fruity flavors. Also, having the proper level of acidity will help to establish a vigorous fermentation.  Tartaric Acid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air.  Acid blend that has been exposed to moisture loses potency quickly and large 'rocks' will form making it difficult to measure accurately.  For this reason we sell only the vacuum sealed 1lb factory packs.  Comes bag-in-bag, keep double sealed when not in use.
