Vintage Wadsworth Deep Blue Enamel & Rhinestone Sunburst Brass Powder Compact in Bag
This lovely compact was found in an old Vermont jewelry collection.
It is marked on the pad Wadsworth, and on the inner gold door Wadsworth, Made in USA
My research lead me to this history: The company that eventually became The Wadsworth Watch Case Co. of Dayton, Kentucky was established in 1889 in Newport KY as a maker of solid gold and gold filled watch cases. In the years leading up to World War Two and the 1950's, they also manufactured high quality powder compacts. In 1953 the company was absorbed into the Elgin National Watch Company, and then the factory closed in 1958.
This piece has a sun with central clear rhinestone on a beautiful reflective deep blue field, with surrounding embossed decoration in the polished gold plated case.  Inside is the pad, the mirror which is showing its age, and a gold door with catch which covers the powder compartment with screen and surrounding pad as shown.  Some powder remains inside.  The back is burnished brass in color.
The compact is about 3-1/8" diameter.
This lot includes the original bag with inspection insert as shown.
There are a few light scratches and a couple of scuffs to the case.  Aside from that, everything is in great condition.  Please see the pictures for details.
